Gatefold double LP containing the original 12 song album plus the follow up 6 song EP.
The Silverlites initial spark happened in 2015, when Rich and Barrett played together in a backing band for a tribute to Led Zeppelin guitarist, Jimmy Page. 4 years later, in 2019, Rich called Barrett to see if he was interested in assembling a new band that could create equally adventurous music. That’s when Barrett called Peter Buck, a longtime friend and collaborator, and Peter called Joseph Arthur, whom Peter had worked with before. The 18 Silverlites songs on this album and EP were recorded across the pandemic years between 2019-2021 using an unorthodox recording process. It started with Barrett recording Rich and Peter in a hotel room at The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, TN when Peter and Rich took out their acoustic guitars to write the initial songs. Barrett ran down to the local music store, bought a portable recording rig, set it up in Peter’s hotel room, and recorded their initial guitar tracks, which make up the body of this work. Barrett then took the songs back to his studio in Olympia, WA, adding drums, upright bass, keyboards, and even the backing vocals before any lead vocals had been recorded. The following year, in 2020, Joseph Arthur began writing lyrics and singing his own lead vocals on the songs, which he recorded in his New York apartment. Another recording session happened at Jack Endino’s studio in Seattle to do additional editing and overdubbing, and then Barrett did the final editing and preparation of the songs for mixing. Mixing happened at Flux Studios in New York City in the summer of 2021 with Barrett, Joseph, and mixing engineer, Daniel Sanint. When it came time to sequence this huge collection of songs, the band was perplexed, so Barrett sent the mixes to his former bandmate, Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees. Mark loved the songs so much that he offered to create his own sequence, which is preserved here in this collection that includes the original 12 song album, and the 6 song EP, which closes out the sequence.
