Sam Burchfield’s Nature Speaks (out October 24 on Cloverdale Records) is his most stripped-down and spirit-forward album to date. Recorded in just five days at Studio 1093 in Athens, Georgia, with co-producers Ryan Plumley and Jason Kingsland, the record radiates warmth, presence, and a deep trust in intuition. Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountain town of Seneca, South Carolina, Burchfield’s songwriting reflects the quiet strength of nature and the grounding power of home. Over the past decade, he’s built a catalog defined by authenticity, drawing listeners in with unvarnished performances and earthy lyricism. Nature Speaks was written during a season of transformation, shaped by fatherhood and a renewed sense of self. Tracks like “Stay (Betty Blue)”—a tender vow to his wife—and “Morning Light,” recorded at home in the stillness of early morning, capture the beauty of life’s intimate moments. With minimal production and heartfelt delivery, the album invites listeners into a space of calm and connection. “Capturing and connecting with humanity is why I make music,” Burchfield says. “This album is more human than anything I’ve done before.”
