United State of Electronica, affectionately known as U.S.E, emerged from Seattle in 2002, born when the members of the band Wonderful spontaneously posed as a fictional electronic dance outfit from Mannheim, Germany—and discovered to their surprise that the crowd loved it. The core founders hail from Wonderful: Jason Holstrom (guitar, vocals), Jon e. Rock (drums, vocals), Peter Sali (guitar, vocals), and Noah Star Weaver (keyboards, vocoder). Complementing that core lineup, Derek Chan joined on bass, and dynamic vocalists Carly Nicklaus and Amanda Okonek lent their sultry harmonies and stage charisma to the ensemble. Their debut—a hand-painted, self-released record in 2004—circularly made its way to fans around the world via free download, before earning a national release on Sonic Boom Recordings (U.S.) and Side-Out Records (Japan) in 2005. U.S.E.’s infectious blend of disco-funk grooves, euphoric hooks, and tongue-in-cheek energy earned them fervent live audiences—especially in Japan, where their track “IT IS ON!” reached No. 4 on the charts, and they performed at Fuji Rock Festival that same year. Their second full-length album, LOVEWORLD, dropped in August 2009—tracking vibrant, dance-floor-ready songs like “All The World,” “Get That Feeling,” and “Party People”—all recorded with engineer Cameron Nicklaus in Seattle. After nearly a decade away from the stage, the full septet reunited for a jubilant New Year’s Eve celebration at the close of 2019. Through it all, U.S.E. remains a shimmering testament to playful spontaneity, communal joy, and the irresistible pull of dance music.
